KUCHING: Priority is being given to create a conducive and business-friendly environment in the state, be it a micro-entrepreneurship or large business.

“This is (done) through access to finance, training resources and business advisory for the progressive development of promising business proposals,” said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

“We want businesses to grow and thrive and in doing so, aid in our recovery efforts as the Covid-19 pandemic has not been easy for a lot of businesses.

“However, seeing entrepreneurs such as Big Bath, this definitely showcases the enduring spirit of our business owners – the true ‘Sarawak Spirit’,” he said this at the launch of the Big Bath Store here, Wednesday (Feb 8).

Big Bath, a bathroom and kitchen accessories store based in West Malaysia opened its first store in Sarawak, making it Big Bath’s eleventh showroom to date.

Wee said the opening of the store marked a significant milestone in the government’s plan to develop Kuching into a business hub for the southern part of the city and would add to the shopping, leisure and recreational choices for the residents in the city and surrounding areas.

He then called on entrepreneurs to emulate Big Bath in starting a business close to their heart and for the community.

“Through such ventures, not only will you be supporting livelihoods, you will also be motivating young Malaysians to contribute to Malaysia’s economy,” he added.

Also present at the launching were Big Bath founder Shane Mun and chief executive officer Poon Fong Yee, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (Sarawak Branch) chairman Datuk Seri Victor Hii and other guests.
