KUCHING: Breaking fast with the community enables Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to give back to the community, said its mayor Datuk James Chan.

“We organise this celebration annually because we want to show that the council is very open in celebrating different festivals which highlight unity among the people,” he said last Saturday here at the Padungan Community Hall.

Chan added that Sarawak was a peaceful state with a lot of ethnic groups who were able to celebrate each other’s festivities together.

“All of these celebrations are organised by the councillors and even with the sponsorships received, they will still work hard in order to make them successful,” he said.

Chan added that he was proud to see families of different races and religions gathering under one roof to break fast together.

The event also witnessed the presentation of RM100 to 100 children.

Also present were MBKS deputy mayor Hilmy Othman and MBKS staff.
