KUCHING: A total of 139 eligible hawkers and petty traders under the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) have received their Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) financial aid on yesterday (July 8).

MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the financial aid was distributed to them in cash form as the recipients do not have any S Pay Global or personal bank account.

He said a total of 135 recipients received RM1,000 cash each under BKSS 8.0 while another four recipients were given RM1,5000 each under BKSS 6.0.

“The Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government has channelled the said aid to MBKS for distribution to eligible recipients under our jurisdiction,” he said.

Wee thanked the state government for allocating continuous aid to hawkers and petty traders since the pandemic.

He said the financial aid would be able to lessen the burden of the recipients and it was hoped that the recipients would use it wisely.

“With our current situation, we need to be financially responsible,” he said.

At the same time, Wee also wished Muslim friends who are celebrating the Hari Raya Haji on tomorrow (July 10) to stay safe and celebrate it responsibility.

“Remember to take care of each other as the COVID-19 virus is still around us,” he added.
