KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Stadium can be used a flood evacuation centre if the need arises.
MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said this was among the council’s efforts to help the authorities provide a safe place for those affected during the rainy season.
“The council will sanitise the stadium and also ensure all the basic facilities are in good condition before it is ready to be occupied,” he said on Wednesday (Jan 13).
Earlier, Wee visited the stadium to assess its readiness to be used as an evacuation centre for those in the MBKS areas. He was accompanied by MBKS councillors and officers.
The city mayor said the council was always ready to support and aid its residents during catastrophic events such as flood.
Yesterday, Wee, along with MBKS councillors and officers also visited the Kenyalang Market and MBKS Community Market to monitor the compliance of standard operating procedures (SOP) by the stall operators.
He reminded the operators to always comply with the SOP laid out by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for the food and beverage sectors.
“Stall operators and coffee shops are also advised to ensure that the cleanliness and hygiene of the stalls are given priority due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Sarawak.
“It is our responsibility to fight the virus together with the frontline workers. In doing so, we can help the government to contain the spread of the pandemic,” he said.
