KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has won the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malaysia Sustainable Development Award 2020 for its own Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Project on the IPeople-Qmunity App under SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

MBKS said that the award was presented by JCI Kuching to its mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng today (Apr 24).

“JCI Malaysia Sustainable Development Award 2020 is a competition organised by JCI Malaysia and participated by many potential contenders namely city councils, companies, schools and associations across the nation.

“The Ipeople-Qmunity App was initially launched in 2018 under SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities as IPeople App and later changed to IPeople-Qmunity App.

“Its creation and launching were to complement the vision of our Chief Minister who advances the digital technology’s utilization in the state based on the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy (SDES),” said MBKS in its press statement on Saturday (Apr 24).

The council said that the app attracted active registration from the people since the first time it was launched and has continued to do so and become a reliable application to submit requests.

It then added that the app has also been successfully used as one of the Covid-19 tracking apps in the state.

MBKS also said that its mayor was delighted that the people of Kuching are moving forward with the Kuching Smart City Master Plan by adapting to the changes in terms of the usage of technology application in their daily life.

“In addition, I would like to dedicate this award not only to the state government, MBKS and its partners Techninier and ARx Sdn Bhd but also to all the people of Kuching for being part of the trend changes.

“I hope that this IPeople-Qmunity App will continue to be the peoples’ choice for the years to come to ensure their requests are properly attended and that it could also caution them to properly look after their own safety during this uncertain period of the pandemic,” said Wee.
