MIRI: As the Year 2020 has come to an end, Miri City Council (MCC) mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang has expressed his wishes and hope for 2021.

In a statement released today, Yii took the opportunity to thank his team of councillors, council’s management team, heads of departments or sections, council staff, government departments, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), private sectors and the general public of Miri for their cooperation, support and contributions throughout last year which have brought success to the council in carrying out most of the programmes as planned.

Yii viewed the Year 2020 as an extraordinary year as it was started with the arrival of coronavirus Covid-19 in January.

“Though the core-businesses and daily activities had at one time almost come to a standstill gradually we had pick up and by 3rd quarter of the year we had recovered and, to a certain extent, managed to fulfil most of our undertakings, thanks to all the support and contributions,” he said.

After accepting the appointment as mayor of Miri City in 2016, Yii had set in place the framework for Miri City Council on key focuses and completed with the long term strategy plan including infrastructure developments; upgrading and improvement of city services; public cleanliness and city beautification; self-financing; safety and security of our living environment; tourism promotion and gearing up for greater Miri.

Under the long term strategy plan, there are a few task forces and monitoring units being set up to oversee the effectiveness of carrying out the programmes under various key focuses such as Miri School Sub-Committee (chairperson: Cr. Missiah Abdullah); Safety & Security Sub-Committee (chairman: City mayor); Road Safety Sub-Committee (chairman: Cr. Karambir Singh); Contract & Procurement (chairman: Ismail Yusuf) and Projects Inspectorate (chairman: City Engineer).
