KUCHING: Given the recent spike in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, the Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA) supports the nationwide movement control order (MCO) 3.0, which is expected to be in effect for four weeks.

SPA secretary David Hii Chin Loung was commenting on the announcement of the MCO 3.0 by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday (May 10).

“The announcement ultimately came as a shock to the public because no prior notice was given by other agencies, especially MKN (National Security Council) and KKM (Health Ministry), so we thought that the government has no choice but to impose another round of MCO in order to contain the Covid-19 outbreak,” he said.

Hii also pointed out the negative impact that MCO may have to the business communities.

“The ‘no-dine in’ rule would have a negative impact on the food and beverage industry, as profits would most likely decrease.

“While there will be negative consequences, we hope that everyone will look at the bigger picture, which is to better control the spread of the virus,” he said.

SPA hopes that the current Covid-19 aid packages will help the people and businesses again.

“The loan moratorium should be enforced immediately to alleviate the people’s financial burden,” he added.
