MIRI: Police here have arrested a mechanic who lodged a false report to claim insurance. He falsely reported that his motorcycle had been stolen.
The 27-year-old suspect lodged the police report around 11 am at the central police station on Thursday (May 26).
However, after the police realised that he had given a suspicious statement, the suspect admitted to lodging a false report in order to claim insurance.
Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, who confirmed the case, said the suspect was arrested around noon on the same day.
With this, the public are advised not to make any false reports as the police will take strict action in accordance with the existing law to prosecute the perpetrators.
