Medan is Ancom’s independent, non-executive director

KUCHING: Sarawak’s corporate figure, Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah, has been appointed as an independent and non-executive director of Ancom Logistics Berhad. 

According to a report by MarketScreener.com, a leading financial news website, the 64-year-old who was the former chief executive officer (CEO) of the Bintulu Port Holdings Group was appointed to the position starting March 30, 2023.

Born in the Bario Highlands, he has extensive experience, particularly over 40 years in the country’s oil and gas industry.

His areas of expertise include marketing and trading; strategic planning; business development and expansion; legal consultation; procurement and supply chain management.

Medan started as a trainee legal officer at Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) in 1982 until he rose to hold a top management position at the country’s giant oil company.

Among the positions he has held were as the Senior Legal Counsel/Company Secretary of PETRONAS Carigali group of companies from 1990 to 1997; executive assistant to the president of PETRONAS from 2001 to 2003; senior general manager, Group Tenders and Contract Division of PETRONAS from 2003 to 2006; senior general manager, Corporate Services of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd from 2006 to 2007; managing director/CEO of Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd from 2007 to 2010; senior general manager, Group Corporate Affairs Division of PETRONAS from 2010 to 2013; managing director/president (Asia Pacific) of Gazprom Marketing and Trading Pte Ltd from 2013 to 2016.

He was also the Group CEO of Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad, a company listed on Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad, from 2016 to February 2023.

Medan was the former director of PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad, PETRONAS Gas Berhad and several other private companies in the PETRONAS stable. 

He is currently the Board Member of the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), a non-independent, non-executive director of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) and an independent, non-executive director of Handal Energy Berhad.

Medan has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) (LLB) from the University of Malaya; Advanced Management Programme from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA; INSEAD Senior Management Programme, Programme on American and International Law at the Southwestern Legal Foundation from University of Texas, Dallas.

Meanwhile, Ancom Logistics Berhad is a company incorporated in Malaysia on April 14, 1966.

It is principally an investment holding company, and holds the entire equity interest in Synergy Trans-Link Sdn Bhd (STL), which in turn holds the entire equity interest in Pengangkutan Cogent Sdn Bhd, a company involved in the transportation of liquid chemical business in Malaysia and Singapore; and 51 per cent equity interest in Ancom ChemQuest Terminals Sdn Bhd, a company involved in building, owning, operating, leasing and managing a chemical tank farm in West Port, Port Klang, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia.
