MIRI: The visit Sarawak year campaign generated a total of 1,953 tourism related news coverage with a cumulative audience of 61million people since December 2018, disclosed Sarawak Tourism Board chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor.

“Newspapers account for the highest volume of coverage with1,275 tourism related stories,” she said during a media gathering with some 50 media practitioners here on Thursday.

Sharzede said the Visit Sarawak Year campaign generated an estimated RM55.3 million worth of public relations value.

“We did put our very best efforts and we saw great increase especially in our domestic markets which registered a 12 per cent increase in visitors’ arrivals compared to last year,” she said.

Sharzede attributed the success to the continuous efforts and contributions from the media.

She noted that from June to November this year, there was a total of 167 news coverage in print, online and broadcast media of tourism-related events.

“I believe the value that we experienced is your direct contribution to the industry,” she said.
