KUCHING: One thousand face masks were given to media frontliners to keep them safe while covering events in the city.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) secured the sponsorship of the masks to be handed to the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA).

The distribution of the face masks was held yesterday morning at the council’s building by Dynamic Kuching team leader Eric Tay, witnessed by MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

In a statement by the council yesterday, MBKS said journalists and media frontliners played vital roles during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“They disseminated accurate information to the general public and, at the same time, put themselves at risks,” it said.

KDJA also extended its appreciation to both Wee and Tay for the masks. It also took the opportunity to urge the public to stop spreading fake news and adhere to the movement control order (MCO).
