GERIK: The second day of the Perak Media Tour 2019 continued with a Friendly Media Programme with the Jahai natives at Kampung Klewang, Royal Belum.

Kampung Klewang is one of the 12 Orang Asli settlements located at Royal Belum, about one hour’s boat journey from the Royal Belum jetty.

Majority of the villagers in Kampung Klewang have no religion and only two families in the village are Muslims.

According to Tok Batin Kampung Klewang Sedo Jebis, there are 35 houses in the village which has a total population of 105 people.

Besides assistance from Felcra and a monthly financial assistance of RM200 from the Asli Development Department (Jakoa), the main source of income for the villagers is from agricultural activities and forest produce.

During the visit, the Perak Media Tour 2019 entourage headed by Perak Information Director, Mohd Taib Ubah had the opportunity to hand over donations from Media Traveler party to Tok Batin as a representative of the villagers.

Earlier, the participants were taken to the Lenggong Valley Heritage Site Museum. Lenggong Valley is one of Unesco’s recognised World Heritage Sites and where Perak Man, the skeletal remains of a man thought to have lived about 11,000 years ago, were found.
