KUCHING: Media practitioners have come in for praise from the Federation of Chinese Associations’ Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Division at its annual media appreciation programme here on Tuesday.

The programme held at the association’s office in City Square was also in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian graced the event.

“Thank you to the media for your leadership and for playing an important role which allows the state to progress and for Sarawak to be prosperous, strong, inclusive and sustainable especially under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).

“Let’s go forward together,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA) president Datuk Richard Wee said the event was to show appreciation to the media for their work throughout the year.

“Thank you to all media for assisting the association in covering and reporting our events.

“We try to make this gathering an annual event to thank everyone (media),” he said, adding however that the event this year had to be scaled down to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“Although we are unable to do the same celebration as in the past we hope to continue this tradition of organising the media appreciation programme.

“This year we simplified the event by inviting representatives of media organisations and presenting CNY gifts to be distributed to their colleagues,” he said.
