KUCHING: Two staff from Timberland Medical Centre sustained injuries in an accident involving an ambulance and two cars in Jalan Song here.

The incident happened around 8.19am, this morning, when the ambulance with three persons (driver, nurse and medical assistant) onboard, were heading to the Tabuan Nursing Home to pick up a patient.

As the ambulance passed the traffic light intersection in front of the CityONE Megamall, it went out of control before swerving into the opposite lane and crashing into two cars (a Proton Saga and a Kia Cerato) that stopped for a red light.

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, when contacted, said the impact of the crash caused the ambulance to flip on its side.

“The ambulance driver, 52, sustained light injuries on his neck while the nurse, 29, suffered a broken bone on her left shoulder. The medical assistant, 22, escaped unharmed.

“The injured victims were taken to Timberland Medical Centre for further treatment,” he said, adding that the drivers and passengers from the two cars were unharmed.
