Warm welcome for the medical experts from China.

KUCHING: Eight medical experts from Guangdong, China arrived at Kuching International Airport yesterday. They will assist in curbing the Covid-19 outbreak in the state.

The medical team was welcomed by Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Cheng Guangzhong and political secretary to the Chief Minister Tan Kai who represented Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim said the state was looking forward to various programmes with the medical experts, other private doctors, traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, the State Health Ministry and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) in the next two days.

“Thank you very much for stopping over in Kuching during your trip to Malaysia,” said Dr Sim on his Facebook page.

Last week, the minister said the experts managed to contain the pandemic in their home country and would be here to share their experience and expertise on fighting Covid-19 with their Malaysian counterparts, which might help the nation’s efforts against the pandemic.

Led by Dr Li Jun, chief physician of the Integrated Chinese and Western Emergency Medicine and vice-president of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the team members are experts in their own fields, ranging from traditional Chinese medicine, nursing, respiratory, intensive care, infection, data analysis and virology.

The others include associate chief physician of the intensive care unit at Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital Dr Wen Miaoyun, director of the Nosocomial Infection Control Department Dr Zhang Youping and associate chief physician of Respiratory and Critical Medicine Department Dr Yang Shifang.

Also in the team are associate chief physician of Infection Department Dr Luo Xiaodan, senior psychologist Dr Liu Xiangxin, chief physician of Guangdong Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Dr Liu Tao and associate chief technician in Virology and deputy director of General Study Office of Guangdong Provincial Institute of Public Health Dr Sun Jiufeng.
