KUCHING: Medical professionals are helping Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to deal with the current Covid-19 pandemic, said Lo Khere Chiang.

The Batu Kitang assemblyman stated that the medical professionals were advising SDMC on how to curb the Covid-19 transmissions.

“Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (Health director-general) in Kuala Lumpur and Dr Chin Zin Hing (state health director) in Kuching are helping SDMC in its decision making.

“These professionals are also helping to take care of the Covid-19 patients and the Covid-19 situation in the country. With the advices given, SDMC is able to decide what is best for Sarawak,” he said.

The chairman of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) also pointed out that besides Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, there were other medical professionals in the cabinet.

“We are able to efficiently work as a team because we share information through the multimedia and put our mind together to think about the best methods to curb the pandemic in our state.

“Of course, in order to ensure that things are organised, we need someone to take the lead. Apart from great help from the professionals, Deputy Chief Minister and SDMC chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is also doing a great job in handling the situation,” he added.

Lo added that in China, although Shih Zin Ping (China’s president, Xi Jinping) was not a medical doctor, he was doing well in taking the lead in the fight against Covid-19.

“Personally, I think that there is no sure way of combating this pandemic. I believe that it will continue to surge and then the transmission will gradually diminish. Sarawak is fortunate to have vast lands and a very spread-out population as these help in preventing the spread of the virus readily.

“Today, our economy is still moving. For instance, the construction industry is ongoing and everybody still has food on the table. We are indeed blessed with good leaders in Sarawak,” he added.

Lo also reminded the people that it was important to stand together with one mind and soul to combat the pandemic instead of pointing fingers during this crucial time.

Recently, Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) Pelawan branch leader, Dr Low Chong Nguan blamed the surge of cases in Sibu on the SDMC’s decision to lifting the movement control order (MCO). He said professionals should be dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in the state instead of politicians.
