BACHOK: A giant cow named Merah is up for sale with a hefty price of RM25,000. Owner Abdul Rahim Salleh, 74, said Merah, a three-anda-half-year-old Limousin bull weighing 1,300 kilogrammes, would be sold for Aidiladha sacrificial slaughter or a feast.
“The demand for this type of breed is not that strong in the state (Kelantan) maybe due to the high price but it is a preferred breed for people outside the state especially Terengganu,” he told reporters when met at his home in Kampung Tawang here yesterday. He added that an individual once offered to buy Merah for RM17,500 but he declined, as he was more comfortable to sell it not less than RM25,000.
“It is not impossible to sell it at that price, as I have been able to sell this type of breed weighing 1,200 kg at a price of RM17,500 to a butcher in Tok Uban, Pasir Mas two years ago. “The meat is more tender than local beef and tastes good when cooked,” he said. – Bernama
