A Malaysia Airlines aircraft with 67 onboard from Kuala Lumpur skidded upon landing at Sibu Airport at 10.17pm on Saturday night during a heavy downpour.

SIBU: A Malaysia Airlines aircraft with 67 onboard from Kuala Lumpur skidded upon landing at Sibu Airport at 10.17pm on Saturday night during a heavy downpour.

The Boeing 737-800 aircraft was carrying 61 passengers and 6 crew.

Speaking to reporters last night, Sibu Airport Manager Zainuddin Abu Nasir said airport fire and rescue team were immediately deployed to response to the incident.

“All of the passenger have no casualties and they have been transferred to the terminal building.  There no minor injuries as well reported.”

“The safety of all passengers was of utmost priority to Malaysia Airlines and an immediate investigation has been launched to determine the cause of incident,” he told reporters at a press conference held at around 12.30am Sunday.

All onboard MH2718 safely disembarked via two slides rafts. No injuries have been reported so far.

He said the causes of the incident have not yet determined but the weather is raining.

Moreover, he said the aircraft not able to move.

“The aircraft not able to move and the aircraft would be taken out by heavy equipment. If we able to do it tonight. We ensure that the airport would be open as possible,” explained him.
