KABONG: A family of seven was rendered homeless after their house was gutted in a fire at midnight on Sunday (Feb 28).

The fiery incident happened in Kampung Batang Maro near here. Firemen from Saratok fire station were despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Upon arriving at the village, the team faced difficulty heading to the scene due to the narrow access road.

The firemen had to park their engines about 10km from the scene and proceeded using a Hilux utility vehicle and the emergency medical rescue service (EMRS) machinery.

By the time the firemen arrived, the wooden house was already completely razed and the team only carried out extinguishing works on the embers.

The seven family members had earlier managed to get out to safety. However, one of them suffered burns on the hand.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
