KUCHING: Some 4,547 army personnel, Defense Ministry staff and families in Sarawak have received their Covid-19 booster shots thus far.

The booster dose programme commenced on Nov 10 and is expected to be completed on Nov 16.

The programme is implemented on a drive-through basis at all five vaccination centres (PPVs), namely Muara Tuang Camp PPV, Pakit Sri Aman Camp PPV, Similajau Camp PPV in Bintulu, Oya Camp PPV in Sibu and Sri Miri Camp PPV.

The booster doses, which have been given out nationwide since Oct 13, are to increase the immunity levels of recipients, which may deteriorate after their first and second doses. In addition, the booster dose also aims to ensure the optimal period of protection for recipients.

Through the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), the booster doses were also given to frontliners, especially military personnel serving at the Sarawak-West Kalimantan border.
