SARIKEI: The construction of a mini stadium at Kampung Seberang Sarikei here is 50 percent completed, said Kuala Rajang assemblyman Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
He said with the progress of the construction at the moment, the mini stadium may be able to reach completion ahead of schedule.
“I hope the mini stadium will be able to boost economic activities in the area apart from hosting big gatherings and events in the near future.
“Seeing such progress, I am expecting it to reach completion by this March or April,” he told New Sarawak Tribune after his visit to the construction site this morning (Jan 19).
The mini stadium, when completed, will be able to accommodate 178 seats and equipped with a stage, changing room, toilet and store room.
The project, supervised by Sarikei District Council, was handed over to Litomidas Sdn Bhd as the appointed contractor to implement the project at a cost of RM988,680.
He also said that next to the mini stadium site is a covered futsal court.
“Next to the covered futsal court are the sepak takraw and petanque courts which have yet to be covered with roofs. We are planning to implement the roofing project in the near future,” he said.
He added that these sports facilities in Sarikei will be a boon in producing good athletes.
