KUCHING: The Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) has briefed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed on new and current projects implemented within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) on Thursday.
In an online meeting, Recoda chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni briefed Mustapa on the implementation status of Score projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025).
Ismawi also spoke briefly on signature projects being implemented by Recoda, of which include the proposed 89-km Northern Coastal Highway, which connects Limbang and Lawas to the border of Sabah, and the proposed roads linking Miri-Marudi, Marudi-Mulu (Kuala Melinau) and Long Panai-Long Lama, Miri.
He said, these roads will not only complement development in the surrounding areas but also spur more economic growth.
Other signature projects in the offing, he said, include the proposed Lawas Deep Water Port Complex and the New Lawas Airport.
“Projects that are close to completion include the access road to the Baleh Dam in the Kapit division, which is expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year,” he said.
Ismawi also spoke of socio-economic programmes implemented by Recoda, including proposals to construct Anjung Usahawan to help provide business premises for small traders and businessmen.
“Another socio-economic effort by Recoda is the donation of outboard motors, or ‘enjin sangkut’, to villagers in the Limbang and Lawas divisions,” he said.
In addition to implementing infrastructure and socio-economic projects, Recoda assists existing investors in terms of manpower supply and jobs training, Ismawi added.
The statutory body also promotes and facilitates investments to SCORE as well as create job opportunities for Sarawakians.
Meanwhile, Mustapa, who is also a member of Recoda’s board of directors, briefed Recoda on the Covid-19 pandemic impact, which resulted in the temporary closures of factories and businesses.
He expressed hope that the pandemic situation would improve soon to enable the lifting of lockdown restrictions.
