KUCHING: The immediate steps taken by the state government to arrest the spike in Covid-19 in Sibu is welcomed by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
“We are thankful that the state government is now increasing its efforts to contain the pandemic in Sibu. This has been announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“The government has identified a few steps for that purpose. This is to provide additional health facilities for use in the district,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Abdul Karim said at the same time, the state government, as revealed by Abang Johari, will provide ten more ventilator machines for hospitals.
“This will supplement the three existing ventilator machines which are available at the moment,” he said.
The Youth and Sports Minister also lauded the move to add more quarantine centres in Sibu to place low-risk Covid-19 patients who are undergoing quarantine.
The Asajaya assemblyman also thanked the community in his constituency for being able to contain the Covid-19 cases in their own area.
“I am pleased to note that the Asajaya district now has turned green due to the cooperation of the locals with the authorities in managing the pandemic,” he said.
On Saturday, Abang Johari urged Divisional Disaster Management Committees (DDMCs) statewide to find ways to stop the spread of Covid-19 in rural areas.
“I have directed all DDMCs to find ways on how to deploy logistics to the affected areas.
“This is because when there are Covid-19 cases in longhouses, the patient needs to be taken to the quarantine centre,” he said.
On the procurement of vaccines, Abang Johari said while it will be arriving soon, Sarawak must contain the local Covid-19 in the meantime.
