KUCHING: Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has thanked those involved in aiding flood victims in Simunjan.

In a Facebook post, she praised the Asajaya Civil Defence Force, police, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Welfare Department, Health Ministry, District Council, Information Department, Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), village heads and District Disaster Management Committee.

“I thank all of those who have been working very hard to assist the families affected by the flood in Kampung Simunjan Jaya, Kampung Sabun, Kampung Kelka, Kampung Hijrah and Kampung Melanjok.

“Currently, the survivors are sheltered at Dewan Mesra Simunjan temporary relief centre (PPS),” she said today.

As of 12 noon today, Simunjan and Serian are the two districts hit by floods in Sarawak. A total of 75 families with 220 victims were relocated to four centres.

Besides Dewan Mesra Simunjan, they are also placed at Dewan Masyarakat Lubok Buntin, Dewan Kampung Entangor Sebuyau and Masjid Kampung Seruyuk.

Meanwhile, Serian recorded 767 flood victims from 259 families who are placed at eight PPS in the district.

“We pray that the current flood situation subsides and all the victims can return safely to their respective homes,” Nancy said.
