Minister meets Australian human rights commission

PUTRAJAYA: A delegation from the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) today called on Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator P Waytha Moorthy and shared Australia’s experiences in promoting human rights and cultural integration.

The delegation included AHRC president Prof Rosalind Croucher; Race Discrimination commissioner Chin Tan; and Senior Policy executive (partnership and international engagement) Natasha de Silva.

According to a statement from the minister’s office, one of the key topics discussed was the conciliatory model used by Australia, which emphasised educational outreach and fairness of the commission to achieve social integration and inclusiveness of its migrant community as equal partners in its society.

The statement said the delegation would also meet with members of the task force set up to draft the National Harmony and Reconciliation Commission Bill.

The bill aims to promote national harmony, unity, reconciliation, integration and equality. – Bernama
