KUCHING: An official residence of the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak has been proposed to be built in the Borneo states, with one in Kuching.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the house was not only for the comfort of the Chief Judge but was also important for the safety and the image of the judiciary.

“Looking at the current set up, the Chief Judge would shuttle between Sabah and Sarawak.

“They are different, we cannot treat them like ministers and put them to stay in hotels,” he said in a press conference after a work visit to the Kuching Court Complex on Sunday (Jan 9).

Therefore, Wan Junaidi said an official residence for the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak should be built in the two Borneo states.

“It would not cost millions of ringgit,” he said, while pointing out that such official residence of the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak was in line with the eligibility as stated in the Judges’ Remuneration Act 1972.
