KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has encouraged more to come forward to do charity work.

Commending the good work of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta and Kuching Love Book Association, she said they had been doing charity events that benefitted the disadvantaged and the needy, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We encourage this kind of charity work because we want Sarawak to be the benchmark for charitable activities that cut across race and religion.

“Also, this will definitely contribute to racial harmony and to create a feelgood feeling in the community,” the Sarawak Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister said after receiving a courtesy call from the two NGOs on Tuesday (Jan 11).

“It touches me, as a minister and as an individual, because the charity work carried out by the two NGOs cuts across race and religion. This is truly the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia.

Apart from that, Fatimah, who is also the Dalat assemblywoman, said she was grateful that the two NGOs wanted to contribute to folk in Dalat.

“The other day, I jokingly told the association how I wished they too could go out of Kuching and to my area (Dalat).

“They did not take it as a joke and have decided to go to Dalat. So, in our meeting, we will be discussing how this is going to be done.”

Earlier, Kuching Love Book Association’s May Loo Hun Ing handed over a total of 5,000 face masks to Fatimah.
