KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has urged people with disabilities (OKU) who have yet to receive their Covid-19 vaccine jabs to come forward.

“I believe there are OKUs not registered with any societies or clubs who have yet to be vaccinated. I hope they will alert us so that we will coordinate and make sure no one is left behind.

“The ministry will take their names and send to the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC),” said the Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Child Development Minister.

She said this after inspecting the vaccination process for the hearing impaired at the UTC on Friday (July 2).

“Today, the UTC PPV is giving vaccination to 87 hearing impaired individuals and will do so to another 32 on Monday (July 5).

“The majority of the OKU community, including the blind, autistic, dyslexic, and those who have spinal cord injury, have been vaccinated.”

She said 1,424 OKUs had been vaccinated in BCCK; 520 OKU trainers and 276 supervisors under the Community-Based Rehabilitation Welfare Department (PPDK JKM); while 516 individuals in Sibu were vaccinated at Agape Centre; and 368 individuals in Miri.

“At the Normah Medical Specialist Centre, 444 OKUs have been vaccinated since June 18 along with 31 caretakers and 39 employees/nannies.”

Meanwhile, Fatimah also applauded the services given at the UTC PPV – 10 interpreters were assigned to help with the vaccination process.

“With the interpreters present at every station here, the vaccination process ran smoothly.

“I would also like to thank the frontline teams, who were very professional and patient in dealing with the OKUs.

“Their excellent service has increased the confidence among the OKUs to get vaccinated without apprehension.”
