KUCHING: The federal government through the Ministry of Economy will ensure that targeted aid can be channeled to those who deserve it.

Federal Economy Minister Mohd Rafizi Ramli said that the transition his ministry was implementing now was to determine the right number of the needy in the nation so that proper assessment could be made.

“This method is done so that no underprivileged will be left out,” he said.

He said this when attending the Engagement Session of the Half Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan with the Sarawak Government at Hilton Hotel here yesterday.

Commenting further, he explained that this transition could also see which households are most eligible to receive assistance based on aspects such as the number of children in the household, the place of their residence, and other daily expenses.

“So, this transition after this will help the government to identify households that should be given assistance and we will no longer use the old method,” he said.

In the meantime, Mohd Rafizi expressed his hope that the public could help in a more integrated way in the identifying method while the government worked to mitigate the country’s financial position.

“We will strike a balanced effort to improve the financial position, in addition to extending social assistance to those who are in need,” he said.
