SIBU: The Ministry for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development has been helping children who graduate from the Department of Social Welfare institutions since 2017.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s recent announcement that a special team with the participation of government agencies would be created soon to provide a special path for these children to acquire academic and skills qualifications.
Fatimah said her ministry had been receiving an allocation of RM500,000 since 2017.
“With the fund, we are focusing on the children whose parents receive financial assistance from the Welfare Department,” she told a press conference after witnessing the handing over of keys to Rumah Seri Kenangan yesterday (August 1).
Fatimah added the ministry believed education and skills training could change a person’s life.
Since Sarawak would be an aged nation by 2028, Fatimah said that her ministry was currently doing a research on the matter to make sure Sarawak was ready for it.
“2028 is happening in six years. We have to be ready in all aspects, especially in health, social, birth rate and more.”
