KUCHING: Several major international events have been proposed by the Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Ministry in its effort to boost sports development in the state.

Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that among the proposed events are Sarawak International Tenpin Bowling Championships, Tenpin World Junior Championship 2023, Asia Pacific Conference on Performance Analyses of Sport Psychology, Asian- South Pacific Association of Sport Psychology and World Chinese Badminton Championship 2023.

“Through the organising of these international tournaments and conferences, it will help in developing the technical, tactical and strategic plus administrative and management skills of players, coaches, managers and sport associations,” he said.

He said this when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the DUN sitting on Wednesday (May 25).

He added that it is also in line with the sports tourism initiative as established in the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to increase tourist arrivals and tourism receipts.

“In addition, it is a good opportunity to build a bigger base of new talents in sports and improve the qualities of their current performance, as well as an eye-opener for our locals to witness international events,” he said.

Furthermore, Abdul Karim said that organising international clinics, workshops, seminars and conferences by bringing in consultants and experts to share the new findings in sports science will increase the knowledge, experience, work attitude, commitment among local coaches and enhance positive productive trends in Sarawak sports.
