Ministry raises awareness about impact of cybercrime, online gambling

THIRTY-THREE Community Solidarity Outreach Programme (PRSK)  sessions have been planned for this year.

Deputy Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Welfare Mohamad Razi Sitam said through the Sarawak Social Development Council (MPS), his ministry has been raising awareness and advocating the impact of cybercrime, including online gambling since 2020. 

“Between 2020 and 2023, a total of 43 PRSK sessions were conducted,” he said in response to a question from Mohd Chee Kadir (GPS-Kabong) during the question-and-answer session today. 

Earlier, Mohd Chee was asking about the measures taken by agencies to curb drug trafficking and online gambling in Sarawak

He said a total of 98 successful raids on illegal online gambling in Kabong area were conducted between 2022 and March 2024, involving 99 arrests. 

Razi said 67 cases were successfully prosecuted in court.

“Meanwhile, from 2021 to March 2024, a total of 16 arrests involving various drug abuse and substance-related offences were recorded by the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) and the Sarawak National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).

To address the issue comprehensively, the said his ministry is focusing on curbing cybercrime, including online gambling since March 21, 2022. 

“Under the supervision of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) in Betong, 23 individuals undergoing rehabilitation or Persons Under Surveillance (OKP) are currently on treatment and recovery,” added Razi.
