KUCHING: The Sarawak government, through the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (MFICORD), is fully committed to supporting both food safety and agricultural initiatives aimed at boosting the state’s revenue.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said that the Sarawak government will support small farmers in generating a higher income.
“We also want to transform small-scale farmers so that what they do and strive for can be turned into significant returns, not just to provide enough money for basic needs.
“Such a mentality needs to be changed in our efforts to value small farmers,” he asserted.
He said this during his speech at the 40th anniversary dinner of Rosewood Station Pte Ltd. held at the Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Friday night.
For the record, Rosewood Station Pte Ltd is a farm owned by the Sarawak government in Australia and a subsidiary of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).
Dr Rundi asserted that in the effort to develop Sarawak’s region, stakeholders should consider the topography and land suitability for farming.
“Sarawak doesn’t just have flat land; we also have extensive fields, highland areas, rivers, and more for cultivation,” he added.
Also present were the State Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain, and other invited guests.
