MIRI: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) is contemplating the possibility of renegotiating with local livestock farmers to manage the retail prices of eggs and chickens in Sarawak.

“The ministry is fully aware of the retail prices for eggs and chickens in Sarawak, and in fact in Labuan, Sabah, are much higher compared to the prices in West Malaysia,” said deputy minister Fuziah Salleh yesterday.

During a press conference here after the prize-giving ceremony for the national-level Consumer Interactive Challenge-School Consumer Club (CIP-KPS), she expressed hope that negotiations with livestock farmers could lead to a solution that maintains the ceiling retail prices for chickens and eggs in Sarawak.

In the Miri and Marudi, the maximum retail price for a standard whole chicken is set at RM9.80 per kg, while the prices for chicken eggs are capped at RM0.47 each for Grade A, RM0.45 for Grade B, and RM0.43 for Grade C.
