Ministry to continue focus on business events

THE Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts is looking to host 78 business events worth RM377.7 million in total economic impact through Business Events Sarawak this year.

Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said these events are projected to generate RM205 million in delegate expenditure, RM22.6 million in taxes and create more than 29,000 employment opportunities.

“In terms of performance, we are on track with a total of 51 secured events out of the target of 100 events.

“We have surpassed our target with a total economic impact of RM181.3 million, exceeding the target by 124 per cent.

“Similarly, the events generated RM98.5 million in direct delegate expenditure, RM10.9 million in tax revenue, and it also created 14,390 employment opportunities.

“Our ministry will continue to emphasise on anchoring business events that deliver economic and legacy impact,” he said when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at DUN on today (May 23).

Meanwhile, he said last year, Business Events Sarawak secured 100 business events which brought RM326.3 million in total economic impact, RM117.3 million in delegate expenditure, RM19.6 million in taxes and some 26,000 job opportunities.

The ministry also hosted 100 other business events worth RM230.3 million in total economic impact, RM125.1 million in delegate expenditure, RM 13.8 million in taxes and created 18,275 jobs.

In addition, Sarawak, led by his deputy Datuk Snowdan Lawan, is set to participate in IMEX Frankfurt, the world’s largest trade show for business events held in Frankfurt, Germany starting today until May 25.

The event will feature Sarawak’s first stand-alone pavilion with a mini exhibition on PCDS 2030, Sarawak’s legacy impact development and the International Journal of Business Events and Legacies.

It will also witness the launch of the Legacy Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025.
