KENYALANG GOLD CARD

KUCHING: A recently developed catch-up plan by the Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development to expedite the distribution of Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) has proven to be effective.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said as a result, a total of 96,712 cards has been printed out of 162,298 applications.

“This is a big jump from what we had announced recently due to the catch-up plan,” she told a press conference in her office here yesterday.

She said the catch-up plan was developed in view of the backlog of applications caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

She explained that the processing, printing, and distribution of the KGCs were delayed during the movement control order (MCO) which was implemented beginning last March.

“In terms of printing the cards, we are currently working with two companies instead of one, namely Technographic and Socoe (Social Community Technology Sdn Bhd),” she said.

Fatimah added that the ministry had also decided to seek help from community leaders and village chiefs, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and service centres to distribute the KGC application forms.

“The distribution process will be slow due to the large amount of forms. We know the people are waiting and eager to get their hands on them,” she explained.

She revealed that as part of the catch-up plan, the ministry had also been developing a system to help in the application process.

“The system will allow the information that are keyed in to be directly available for printing and this will expedite the printing process,” she added.
