THE Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry will continue to empower the recipients of monthly aid to be self-reliant through Micro Welfare Entrepreneurship (UMK) programme.

Its minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the ministry was planning to extend the programme to develop more entrepreneurs in Sarawak.

She revealed that a total of 4,480 welfare recipients had participated the training programme up to September this year.

“I am happy to note that the number of participants is increasing each year and 394 of them have managed to elevate their incomes to above RM1,000 monthly,” she said in her winding-up speech yesterday.

Fatimah then went on to promote the Sarawak Wellbest Carnival 2019 which would be held from November 27, 2019 until December 1, 2019 at Metrocity, Kuching.

She explained that the event would help the participants to improve the marketability of their products in the domestic and global markets.

“To date, 1,377 participants who are still undergoing the training programme in and outside of Sarawak have managed to generate a total profit of RM7.18 million,” she said.

Another initiative conducted by the state government was the Training and Career Programme (PLKK), under which participants would be given allowances, she added.

Twenty eight participants of the programme had been offered the Oil and Gas Course at Centexs and Amaida Resources Sdn Bhd in Miri.
