ABANDONED CHILDREN

KUCHING: The Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK) will submit citizenship applications for four children under the care of welfare institution Rumah Kanak-Kanak (RKK) Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah here.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the four children have no identification document at all to verify their citizenship status.

“These four children fell under the category of baby dumping or baby abandonment cases. Therefore, we saved the children and placed them under the protection of Sarawak Social Welfare Department.

“Following that, we have to apply for citizenship for them so that when there are families interested to adopt them, the process would not be troublesome since we have applied for the children’s citizenship and approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs,” she said.

She hoped that the matter could be expedited in order to guarantee the children’s future and their rights to education without having the citizenship issue as a stumbling block.
