THE Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK) still needs more private enterprises, especially in the rural areas, to join as vendors for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) initiative.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the ministry, led by minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, introduced the KGC for the elderly aged 60 and above.

As holders of KGC, the elderly can enjoy discounts, rebates or non-chargeable fee on goods and services offered by the card’s strategic partners (government agencies) and vendors such as commercial centres and private enterprises.

“Presently, there are 162 registered vendors with Kuching having the most at 74, followed by Sibu (19), Miri (19), Bintulu (12), Samarahan (11), Limbang (10), Serian (five) Mukah (four), Sarikei (three), Sri Aman (three) and Betong (two).

“We still need more private enterprises, especially in the rural areas, to come in as vendors and who are willing to give back to society, particularly to our elderly.

“Interested vendors can apply through the ministry’s website,” he said when delivering the ministry’s winding-up speech at the DUN sitting on Friday (Nov 13).

The KGC comes with the death compassionate assistance of RM3,000 that can be claimed by the heirs of KGC holders for funeral expenses.

As of Oct 31, there are 190,115 KGC holders and 878 heirs have benefited from the death compassionate assistance amounting to RM2,634,000.
