KUCHING: Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi yesterday lauded the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to expand the vaccination coverage to include those who are below the age of 18.

The Pantai Damai assemblyman pointed out that this is pertinent given that most of the Covid-19 cases recorded in the country involves the young generation.

He said this during a visit at the Telaga Air Health Clinic on the first day of vaccination for those below 18.

“It is a very much welcomed decision by MOH to provide vaccination and protection to the young generations. Such measure is very timely in view that the Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced that the reopening of schools is scheduled to be on Oct 3.

“Thus, the vaccination of this group can be seen as part of the preparation for them to get ready to go back to school and continue with their studies,” he pointed out.

Dr Abdul Rahman who is also the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) stated that he was proud to see the great turnout for the first day of vaccination for this group in his constituency.

A total of 375 students from three schools within the Telaga Air area were vaccinated in the first group yesterday while today is the slot for the second group of students.

He pointed out that another vaccination centre (PPV) in his constituency is located at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Santubong which will involve another three schools.

“I was informed by the medical officers on duty that everything is going well at the respective PPV. This is because the respective schools’ administration and their teachers are facilitating the registration process,” he added.

He also called upon parents and guardians to promptly get their children who are eligible to go for the Covid-19 vaccine jab.
