The Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Ministry (MYSED) is promoting and developing informal and micro entrepreneurs in the target group age of 40 years and below.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this was part of his ministry’s new portfolio of entrepreneurial development.

He noted that his ministry would provide development programmes and platforms by planning and designing appropriate programmes based on MYSED Strategic Planning 2022-2026.

“The programme specifically promotes new technology-based start-ups or knowledge-based sectors with the objective of cultivating high value-added business,” he said in his ministerial winding up speech today.

He said among the programmes implemented were the Youth Entrepreneur Setup Programme (YES), Youth Entrepreneur Setup and Financing, JUMS Start Biznes, Roombark Bundle and Jom Jadi Tauke.

“YES started in the northern zone in Miri division on March 19 2022. A total of 365 youths were involved in the programme as an early exposure to youth in the field of entrepreneurship by sharing entrepreneurial and business information from the relevant government agencies.

“For this year, the programme will continue to be implemented in Sibu and Kuching, and other divisions in future

“As for YES and financing, it was held on April 2 this year in collaboration with Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia (Bank Rakyat) to share information on micro financing loan assistance offered specifically to micro and informal youth entrepreneurs,” he said.

He revealed that there were other programmes which would be implemented in the future.

“These include Program Bina Jaringan Rangkaian Industri, Youth Business Challenge, Youth Entrepreneur Carnival or Conference, Business Management and Upskilling course as well as E- Commerce and Digital Marketing.

“We also aim to encourage youth in making business as a career through the Car Boot Sale and Flea Market programmes.

“Apart from that, the establishment of the MYSED One-Stop Youth Centre in every civic centre also provides a platform for information on business and entrepreneurship in the specific sectors towards the digital economy.”

In order to build a strong support and network in the development of youth entrepreneurs in Sarawak, he said his ministry was also actively collaborating with entrepreneurship agencies.

“We are working closely with entrepreneurship agencies such as commercial banks, International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak Ministry (MINTRED), including International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI), Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Majlis Amanah Rakyat Malaysia (MARA), Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak (DUBS), SABERKAS, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) and cooperatives,” he said.
