KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) made the right decision to follow the advice of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, says Datuk Peter Minos.

“Years of political turmoil and years of political squabbles in Malaysia, especially in the Peninsular, had made Malaysians very tired, weary and frustrated,” said the political commentator.

“Political problems had adverse effects on almost everything – the economy, national unity and harmony, interracial relationships and so on.”

Minos added that it was high time to start reconciling and start afresh. “It is never too late. We thank our Agong and the wisdom His Majesty has brought about.”

He said with the unity government and with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister, Malaysia could expect to rise again economically and socially.

“Looking back, we can ask ourselves: Why must we Malaysians hit and hurt each other over politics year in and year out? Why can’t we start forgetting the past and reconcile and live?”

He stressed that as Malaysians “we simply cannot go on like it was in the last few years as the experience was bad and bitter.”

“We must say: We are Malaysians and must be friends as we should and must.

“In a multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural society of ours, serious political differences and squabbles can and will trigger many troubles and many bad things that can destroy our nation and our own selves,” he stressed.

Minos then elaborated further that in Sarawak “we have no choice but to be friendly with the federal government as this is for our own good and for a bright future.”

“We thank GPS, especially our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for making a good and wise decision. Sarawak is grateful.

“Let us finally say, past is past. It is high time to make a new political beginning and chart a fresh future,” he added.
