MIRI: A 20-year-old Indonesian man was arrested on suspicion of entering a security restricted area at Miri Airport on Tuesday.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said, “He was spotted wandering around at Miri Airport Control Pos 1 building around 10.30am before he attempted to flee by heading towards ‘Ekaran Gate’.”

The suspect was detained by the airport auxiliary policemen near the gate   minutes later and handed over to police officers for further action.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was working as a car wash worker.

Lim added that police are still investigating how the suspect gained access to the area as he had no document that allowed him to enter it.

The suspect is currently being detained for 14 days under Section 51 (5) (b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having a valid pass or document to stay in Malaysia.
