MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) enforcement personnel conducted an operation last Friday against the homeless here squatting under the Miri-Pujut flyover.

According to its mayor Adam Yii, this was done after the council received numerous complaints from the public. He said that the operation was carried out peacefully.

“We could not allow it to continue. They (homeless) will be referred to the welfare department for further action,” he said, adding that the council has the legal right to conduct the operation.

“Those found to be involved in drug-related activities would be sent to the National Anti-Drugs Agency Miri branch for further action,” he said.
