MIRI: Six local men have been arrested by the police today in connection with an attack incident that went viral on social media.

Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, in a statement today, said the suspects, aged 19 to 34, were apprehended by a team of Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel for questioning.

“The incident happened at a basement parking space of a shopping mall in Jalan Bintang here.

“The arrests were made following a report we received around 11am,” he said.

Earlier today, three short video clips showing a group of men, one of them armed with an iron rod, attacking and kicking a car inside the parking space went viral.

It was believed that the incident happened over a “girlfriend issue.”

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapon at a riot, which provides a jail term of up to five years, a fine or both upon conviction.

It has also been classified under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing loss or damage.
