MIRI: The Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC) has decided to enhance the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in red zone areas within this district, following concerns over the rise in Covid-19 cases.

This was revealed by Minister in charge of MDDMC Datuk Lee Kim Shin after chairing a meeting via zoom application on Sunday (May 9).

“We have submitted proposals for tighter SOPs to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for approval,” Lee said.

He called for public co-operation in continuing to adhere to the SOPs following the rise in Covid-19 positive cases recently.

“In the past, we managed to flatten Covid-19 curves, and I believe we can do it again if we continue to observe the SOP and guidelines that are laid down by the government,” he pointed out.

Miri district has been in the green zone, before losing that status when the Sayap Cluster emerged on January 11 this year.

The district has since then been in the red zone.

“That is why, we are asking everybody to comply with the tighter SOPs that will be announced later, please stay put, do not go out unless necessary…we are hoping to be able to flatten the Covid-19 cases,” he said.

Lee also reminded the public that inter-district travel during this coming festive season is not permitted, except for emergency, work purposes and essential sectors.
