Miri field hospital begins operation

MIRI: A field hospital constructed at the parking lot of Miri Hospital has commenced operation after it was handed over to the hospital authority by Mercy Malaysia Sarawak Chapter and Sarawak Shell Berhad (Shell) on Wednesday (Oct 13).

It is expected to play a fundamental role in helping to reduce congestion at Miri Hospital in accommodating 66 Categories Three and Four Covid-19 patients.

The field hospital is the second such project by Mercy Malaysia Sarawak chapter in the state, after a similar hospital in Kuching.

Construction of the field hospital began on Oct 2.

Transport Minister Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin, who is also minister-in-charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee, witnessed the handing over of the field hospital to Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong.

In conjunction with the handing over of the field hospital, Sarawak United People’s Party Senadin branch donated 40 sets of mattresses, pillows and bed sheets to the hospital.

Also present were Miri Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf, divisional health officer Dr Raviwharmman Packierisamy, Mercy Malaysia Sarawak Chapter chairman Martin Jandom and general manager (government and corporate relations) Sarawak Shell Berhad, Jonathan Jolly.

Lee, in his remarks, applauded the collaboration between Mercy Malaysia Sarawak Chapter and Sarawak Shell in setting up the field hospital.

He also reminded Mirians to adhere to strict operating procedures following to the re-opening of more economic sectors.
