MIRI: The Miri Hospital is still investigating the death of a 57-year-old woman who was reported to have died after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine at the Miri Hospital on June 26.

Sarawak Health Department director Datuk Dr Mohamed Sapian Mohamed said the hospital was awaiting further test results.

He revealed that a post-mortem was done on the case on June 27 and initial finding discovered there were signs of a heart attack which had occurred two or three days before death.

“The autopsy report also found no signs of anaphylaxis as a result of the vaccination,” he said yesterday.

Dr Mohamed added the woman had diabetes and high blood pressure.

After initial screening and informed consent were given, the woman, he added, was injected on June 26 at 9.20am at the vaccination centre at the Miri Hospital.

“While being monitored in the observation zone after the vaccination, she complained of nausea, chills and vomiting at 9.30am and was immediately treated in the resuscitation zone by the emergency specialist.

“However, the woman’s health condition continued to deteriorate and she was transferred to the Emergency Treatment Unit of the Miri Hospital for further treatment,” added Dr Mohamed.

He said that emergency treatment was given continuously for 40 minutes. However, the woman was pronounced dead at 11.10am.

“The public are urged not to speculate on the case and to obtain official information from verified sources,” advised Dr Mohamed.
