MIRI: Police here confirmed that there is no policeman or security guard by the name of Steven Cheng in Miri district police headquarters (IPD). Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said they have detected a statement posted by a Facebook user named 'Melbert Mino' stating he was harassed by an individual impersonating as a policeman on WhatsApp. "Following that, we are able to confirm that there is no individual by the name of Steven Chung, serving as a policeman or a guard in Miri IPD. "Anyone found to be impersonating as the police, can be prosecuted under Section 107 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both, upon conviction," he said in a statement. As such, Naga urged the public not to be easily fooled by irresponsible individuals who disguised themselves as police personnel. If in doubt, they can reach out to the Miri IPD operations centre at 085-433750 for confirmation. Earlier, a series of photos showing the conversation between Melbert and the impersonator was uploaded on Facebook. In the conversation, the impersonator threatened to arrest him as he is a policeman.
