MIRI: Three venues here have been identified to be used as vaccination centres during the first phase of the inoculation programme involving 11,000 frontliners this coming March.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin who is also Minister in-charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee said the venues are Dato Permaisuri multipurpose hall in Permyjaya, Eastwood Valley Golf and Country club Miri and a centre in Bekenu.

Asked on the launch of the programme in Miri, Lee said it depended on the arrival of the Covid-19 vaccine in the district.

“Tentatively, it’s on March 6, however it is not yet confirmed because it depends on the vaccine arrival in Miri … we cannot give the exact date for the first phase of the vaccination, because I don’t want to give false hopes to Mirians,” pointed out.

Lee and Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting will jointly kick-start the vaccination programme in Miri.

He was met after inspecting the RM1.2 million Riam-Hospital Link road widening and smart traffic light system installation/construction project today.

The project is fully funded by the state government. The link road has been completed while the newly installed smart traffic light system is on a trial run.

“This intersection is one of the busiest in the city, besides Pujut 7 and Jalan Bintang, with traffic flows of more than 20,000 (vehicles) per day prior to the MCO,” Lee commented.

Hence, the installation of the smart traffic lights and widening of the road would help ease traffic flow at the area.
